The ART OF GLASS

I have continued to explore the themes of layers and strata through the medium of glass. Many of the results are reminiscent of fossils and archaeological finds. Other themes to emerge are watery images: under the sea and bubbling and flowing forms.

Fused glass is made by layering the sheets of glass with inclusions such as coloured glass powders and frits, copper wire, metal leaf and bubble powder. These all create different and sometimes unpredictable effects. The artwork is then fired in the kiln.

We have four lovely pieces of glass by Linda Brown, each suiting their very different  environments.  We particularly love the way the light reflects off the different colours and textures. A very talented glass artist”

In sand-cast glass a mould is scooped out of sand in the desired pattern, coloured glass powers, silver foil and other frits are added before pouring in the molten glass. The pouring can be paused so that more inclusions such as copper carbonate or copper sheeting can be added. The completed mould is put in the kiln for a controlled cool down period.

I was delighted that Linda accepted our offer to exhibit at the Flamstead Arts Festival. She displayed a range of her works across different genres and it was much admired by our visitors. I hope she will return to exhibit again in the future”

The fused glass panels were made at the University of Hertfordshire and the sand-cast glass sculptures at Ewa Wawrzyniak and Jon Lewis’s studio at Parndon Mill.
