THE ART OF PRINT MAKING

“Two of Linda’s framed pieces have adorned our living room walls for many years. Both are beautifully executed  images inspired by items in the natural world, and are most pleasing compositions in themselves. However, deeper interest is also aroused by the meanings and feelings suggested by the images, such as associations with femininity, procreativity and life cycles. Even after so long, our eyes fall on these prints with pleasure and satisfaction.”

At Bodenpress I have worked with a range of printmaking techniques including  mono- type, photopolymer etching, drypoint, collagraph and linoprint. The main themes continuing to influence my printmaking are strata, layers, looking in and looking out, something emerging from beneath.

We are so pleased with the print of the Porte D’Espagne that we bought from you recently. Not only is it a lovely piece of art but it also captures the atmosphere of the pretty southern french town of Céret perfectly”

Collagraph made from layers of paper and card can lend itself to these themes. I like the variety of textures that can be created and the different results which can be obtained depending on how the plate is made and inked.

Photo-polymer etching is also interesting because of the way you can begin with a photograph or drawing on acetate and create something quite different from the starting point. Incorporating other media into the print, such Chine Collé and gold leaf can add further depth to the artwork.
